A painting by Angeles Santos

A poem by Juan Ramón Jiménez awakened in Angeles Santos the idea of creating a world. A world in which light comes from the stars, in which a train circulates through daily life, where women care and watch over. Angeles Santos was only 17 years old when she created this work, which surprised the highest intelligentsia in Madrid and brought her to a new century, to a beautiful wall of the Reina Sofía Museum, where we admire her tirelessly.

A young lady who was talented, worked hard and brings inspiration to the world today.

The poem is

ALBA

by Juan Ramón Jiménez

Se paraba
la rueda
de la noche…
                            Vagos ángeles malvas
apagaban las verdes estrellas.

Una cinta tranquila
de suaves violetas
abrazaba amorosa
a la pálida tierra.

Suspiraban las flores al salir de su ensueño,
embriagando el rocío de esencias.

Y en la fresca orilla de helechos rosados,
como dos almas perlas,
descansaban dormidas
nuestras dos inocencias
-¡oh qué abrazo tan blanco y tan puro!-
de retorno a las tierras eternas.
